If it's a manual transmission, you'll be talking about putting an SM465 to replace an NV3500 or NV4500... I'd be doing the opposite swap, personally, as the SM465 is a direct drive transmission with no overdrive gear. It can be done.. you'd just have to use the NV bell housing, and you might have to replace driveshafts with ones fitted for the new setup.
More the same with the automatic transmission... there's no reason to replace an overdrive 700R4 with a direct drive TH350.
Yes!
Yes. Assuming it's an automatic, both use the 4L60E transmission.
Yes, any GM V8 engine will FIT in GMC truck. It just depends on how much modification you want to do to hook it up and make it run. Yes, any GM V8 engine will FIT in GMC truck. It just depends on how much modification you want to do to hook it up and make it run.

The starter for a 2002 GMC truck is located on the passenger side of the block by the transmission.
Yes it will fit. But this is what you will need to make it run RIGHT. You will need the complete engine, transmission and fuel pump wiring harness. The computer and the transmission plus the electric fuel pump. And all of these things MUST come from the 97 truck and be installed in the 90 truck are you will never get the engine running. You will also need the oxygen sensors out of the exhaust system on the 97 it has 2 of them and the 90 model has 1.
no
It depends on what make and model. My GMC truck YES My wifes Honda Accord NO
Your 1996 GMC Sierra truck might not go in reverse because the transmission fluid is empty. You might also have damaged the transmission or the transmission linkage could be broken.
