Heat will have that effect on rubber. Like molasses, it's easier to work with when the temps get higher and the opposite when the temps get lower. If you are concerned about the hose, I would do a check on the hose when the car has had a chance to sit overnight. This is called a "cold" check and you will notice the soft spots immediately when squeezing the hose in different spots. One part of the hose will be firm and then there will be one spot the feels more like a soft and mushy blister. If so, change the hose immediately or you will be afoot or worse, the car will overheat and you take a big chance on ruining the engine permanently. Hope this helps.

The cooling system should be pressurized when hot and the hoses should be firm. I suspect the radiator cap is not doing its job.

The replacement is relatively easy and cheap. I paid about $110 for the radiator and fluid at AutoZone. There are upper and lower hoses to worry about plus the transmission cooler runs through the bottom of the radiator. It is no big deal. There are 2 small (1/2 inch or so) hoses just below the distributor besides the 2 big radiator hoses. When installing the radiator make sure it sits on its rubber mounts only when all is installed. You do not want any unnecessary vibrations going through the radiator. The radiator is made of plastic and aluminum. This is why I replaced the first one. It cracked. After 350k miles I think I got my money out of it. Good luck. This is an easy repair.
