Why does your 1993 mercury topaz water temperature run so cool while driving but overheats if sitting still?

Check the electric fan to see if it is working.

Why would a fan runs while you are driving?

There are 2 fans that would be running while you are driving and that is normal... the compressor fan if you have the air conditioner running and the radiator fan runs to help keep the radiator cool while the engine is on.

Why would a 96 Escort never reach operating temp and cool down to cold while driving and the heater will blow warm air at first and then cool even after you put in a new thermostat and changed coolant?

Why does your cooling fan come on when car is just sitting?

While your car is running the engine is heating up. While your driving you have air being forced over the radiator cooling it off. When you are sitting still you don't have that air so your engine is heating up even more so the cooling fan comes on to help cool you engine off. Via cooling the radiator.

You have a 1992 Dodge Caravan and there are times when after driving someplace and shutting it off it won't start back up If you let it sit for an hour or so it starts back up immediately new battery?

SOMETIMES WHEN THE IGNITION CONTROL MODULE GOES OR IS GOING BAD IT WOULD CAUSE THESE PROBLEMS IT MAY CAUSE MISSFIRE/MISSING,AND OR HARD OR NO STARTING. '''THIS OFTEN HAPPENS WHEN THE IGNITION CONTROL MODULE GETS HOT'''. AFTER SITTING FOR A WHILE IT'LL COOL OFF AND WORK AGAIN. IF THE BATTERY WAS BAD BY LETTING THE VEHICLE SIT FOR A WHILE WOULD REALLY MAKE NO DIFFRENCE. BATTERIES DON'T GET CHARGE JUST SITTING.(VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE ON) HOW DOES THE VEHICLE CRANKS.NORMAL,SLOW,NO CRANK?

In your 1987 Toyota Cressida the coldhot meter shoots up to hot after driving but then will go back to normal while driving?

I would check the electric fan (if so equipt), when the engine stops the hot water is not circulated it needs the fan to cool it. When they get older the thermometer quits doing it's job.

Why does the engine cooling fan run on high speed after engine has been idling?

because when car is sitting still and at idle you do not have "air flow" coming into radiator to help cool it as you do when you are driving. So fan compensates for this higher engine - antifreeze temperature to try and cool it off it has to work harder.
