It is possible that the temperature gauge has stopped working in a 1992 Tempo due to a blown fuse. It is also possible that the temperature gauge stopped working do to the temperature sensor in the engine having a short.
A faulty temperature sensor, a wiring issue, or a blown fuse could cause a temperature gauge to stop working. It could also be due to a malfunction in the gauge itself.
check the wiring, and also the sending unit, and also check the gauge to make sure its working properly.
An automobile temperature gauge can fluctuate when the thermostat is opening and closing erratically. The temperature gauge can also fluctuate when the ground wire is loose.
Check all your wiring connections, it sounds like you have a loose connection somewhere, also check the harness plugs and make sure they are also tight.
Hi, The 'easiest' way to see if the gauge AND sensor for the temperature gauge is or should be working is to connect a scan tool to the van that can read and display the information that the computer is receiving about the coolant temperature. Very often, there are conditions where the temperature gauge will read at its minimum value, but the actual temperature is higher. This is because the computer actually controls the gauge, and will set the gauge to its lowest value if it thinks the engine temperature is not rising fast enough. If you have a multimeter, you can also test the resistance of the sensor (located near the thermostat housing). The value should change as the temperature changes. Again, if that sensor is working but the gauge is not moving, more troubleshooting is required to find the cause of this issue. I have included a link that shows the location of the sensor (look at the bottom pictures). Good Luck, Greg
Have you checked for leaks? also the cooling fan may not be working.
When the gas gauge stops working in a vehicle, the first thing to check is the fuse. This is an easy and inexpensive task and may end the problem right then and there. If that isn't the issue, there could be a lose or broken wire between the gauge and the battery, or the float could be stuck or need to be replaced. It is also possible that the voltage regulator is failing.
Your engine coolant temperature gauge has a sensor ( there is also a engine coolant temperature sensor that is used for the computer / PCM )
If your lawnmower stops working after five seconds of use, you may need gas. It can also be a problem with your fuse.
The temperature gauge will not work on a 1984 GMC Sierra truck if the sending unit is defective or the wiring has come loose. It is also possible for the gauge itself to fail, but this is less common.
The temperature gauge is broken.Could also be the temperature senor/sending unit, or a short in the circuit.
