It allows the vehicle to move thru the air with as little air resistance as possible allowing more power to the wheels. I think it was Chrysler that first massed produced a streamlined car back in the 1930s maybe called the Airflow. In racing ,cars also produce down force so as to be able to stay on the road at high speeds,I heard an F1 car can produce enough downforce at speed it can actually drive on the ceiling.
