it's because there is a space underneath the motor which allows the heat and smoke to get out quickly and without heating the car and there are also some open spaces on the hood depending on the car

If a vehicle seems to be smoking from under the bonnet (Hood), assuming that there is nothing wrong with the electrics/fuel system etc, would it be reasonable to assume without seeing the vehicle, that temperature variations can and do play a roll in what can sometimes be seen as steam appearing from cold engine compoents from a cold engine starting and warning up?
