There are plenty of possible reasons for this - if you want to narrow it down, you need to get an actual diagnosis done. Timing, ignition, spark plugs and spark plug wires, distributors and rotors, internal engine parts.. all are possible trouble spots. You're not going to find a definitive answer on here because we aren't able to do an actual diagnostic on your vehicle.
Inertia.
A car can backfire and die if the spark plugs are bad. The car could also have a problem with the timing or the catalytic converter .
it doesn't or it shouldent'
Slowing down
A car shouldn’t normally slow down when you accelerate—if it does, something’s off. Common reasons: Transmission slipping (power not reaching the wheels) Fuel delivery issues (pump or injectors) Clogged air filter or intake problem Bad sensors (like MAF or throttle) Brake drag (brakes partially stuck) In short: the engine is trying to speed up, but power isn’t getting to the wheels properly.
catalytic converter?
I don't have a car.
No! A car backfires because unburned fuel is getting to the muffler. The heat of the exhause system causes the fuel to combust, thus a backfire. A bad alternator will just not charge your car battery.
Joe felt the car accelerate very quickly. The car's acceleration was impressive.
When a car turns a corner.
A sparkplug misfiring.
Could be in need of a tune-up.
