Shift linkage out of adjustment?
What kind of noise? It could just be the park lock solenoid clicking when it releases to engage drive, this wouldn't come from the gearbox though, it would be from the gear selector unit under the centre console.
are you pressing the brake as you try to shift?
neutral safety switch/ or reverse switch faulty thanks. how would i go about replacing the safety switch? is it difficult?

It might be a problem with your transmission because not all mx6's stall when you put it in drive or reverse.
Remove the rear speaker covers from your 2000 Buick Park Ave. Remove the rear speaker retaining screws. Remove the wiring harness. Reverse the process to install the new rear speakers.
I would bet that it is a wheel bearing, i was experiencing the same thing. i didnt notice it at driving speed because of engine noise.
Itr's a triangular-like sensor on the top front of the transmission. I know one function but it has 2 functions. It lets the ECU(PCM) know what position the transmission is in. Park or Neutral, then sends voltage to the starter so it starts. The other function has something to do with reverse, or the backup lights. carl
