There are several reasons why a car will start and then bog down when the accelerator is pushed. Some of the reasons could be plugs, fuel pump, or the catalytic converter.
coolant temp sensor
sounds to me like a fuel pump if the engine continued to run but accelerator did not work then check for broken or disconnected accelerator cable both at the pedal and the throttle plate
Carb.? Weak or bad accelerator pump? Fuel Injected? Perhaps bad injectors (leaking)
If you have an older car that has a carburetor, the accelerator pump diaphragm may be defective
It wont allow it to start or sometimes may start but die when you press on the accelerator.
NO. It is fuel injected and has no carburetor thus no accelerator pump.
If a car stalls when pushing the accelerator, the car may be in park. The car may also be in neutral if the car stalls and does not move. A very dirty fuel filter or a faulty fuel pump could cause that condition also.
Turn on the ignition but don't start vehicle. Pump the accelerator 3 times. Turn the key to off. This should do it the next time you start the car.
Im guessing you have a carb, the accelerator pump is in it.
Try servicing the car... Fuel filter/Air filter and housing is the most common culprit. The car basically can't 'breathe' and pushing the accelerator forces the engine to run.
Just press the accelerator.
