well it is protecting u and doent want any one to hurt u and making sure u are not acting like a ding dong . also it helps baby and dogs from escaping. when i was trying to get out of the car it locks . I GOT TICKED OFF LIKE A COW BLOWING HORN . I TOLD THAT CAR TO OPEN THE STUPIED DOOR .MY MOM SAID CALM THE HECK DOWN

Many of the newer vehicles automatically lock the doors when the vehicle starts to move. Some have provision to disable that feature, but most do not.
its possible that the maxima has a safety device that will automatically lock the doors when it reaches a certain speed it should lock all the doors though

Some Models have Fuse that controls that ....I dis-connected mine after I locked myself out in car wash
if the doors do not lock then one of the fuses is out!
