Did they used to go off with the ignition? On most cars, the headlights will come on at any time by just turning them on. The car does not need to be running or the key turned on.
Headlights are not to stay on all the time, only front parking lights.
Why do headlight stay on all the time on 2001 suburban
The first headlights on cars were invented in the 1880's and were configured similar to gas lamps of the same time period. The first electric headlight was invented by the Electric Vehicle Company.
Headlights might stay on in a Honda Odyssey after the engine is turned off because of a courtesy timer. The headlights will stay on for a few seconds after exiting the vehicle so the driver can go into a building at night safely. If the headlights are staying on all the time, check the timer for this feature.
Do the headlights stay on until you disconnect the battery? Or do they shut off after a certain period of time? They may have a timer which keeps them on. Check the owners manual to find out how to change this. If a timer is not the case, your headlight switch is probably bad, or you may have a problem in the wiring harness. I would check the switch first. Unplug it from the back. If your lights go out, you need a new switch.
This is an illegal modification.
There is a switch called the "twilight sentinel". That alllows you to adjust the time that the lights will stay on after you turn the engine off. Check to see if that is working properly.
With very few exceptions--Lada at least used to sell cars in Canada but not the US--Canadians buy the same cars Americans do. Except their headlights are wired to burn on low beam all the time the car's on.
Headlights won't turn offYou don't mention the make, model, and year of your vehicle so this answer will have to be generic in nature. Many of the later model vehicles are designed for the headlights to remain on for some time allowing a person to have light to navigate their driveway, sidewalk or garage to an entrance door to the house. This condition of headlights remaining on temporarily is accomplished using a "relay" which is a switch which is controlled by an electrical current. That relay control current is usually provided by an electronic timer device. Sometimes the timer is inside the relay, and sometimes it is a separate device, possibly located some distance from the relay. Therefore, IF the timer "sticks" in the on mode, or the contact points in the relay stick in the closed position, then the electrical current to the headlights never gets turned off and thus the headlights stay on.
Yes. Far as I know all cars do. They dim for night driving and may not be readable in the day time.
The headlights on a car typically need to be turned on a half hour to an hour before dusk. Additionally some states have laws that headlights should be turned on during inclement weather, such as rain or storms.
