There its too much current running through them. If they are hooked up properly then you either have a short some where (positive wire that is touching ground) or the jumper cables can't handle the current demanded by the vehicle you are trying to start. If this is the problem, you need jumper cables that are a thicker gage wire.

What types of battery cables should one use when trying to jump start a dead battery?

Jumper Cables. If your battery has died, you may be able to use jumper cables to jump start it from some good Samaritan_Ü_s vehicle. If you can safely use jumper cables on your vehicle, make sure that the battery on the good Samaritan_Ü_s vehicle has at least as much voltage as your own.

Why won't the jumpers cables start your car when there placed right?

If they are hooked up right and the motor won't turn over, you could have a bad battery cable in the car you are trying to start. Try hooking the negative jumper directly to the motor block, if it starts then, you have a bad ground cable. If not, try hooking the positive jumper to the terminal on the starter.

Sears Tractor runs only with jumper cables attached to a good battery After disconnecting the cables the tractor engins within seconds It's a 17 Hp Kohler engin on a Sears 42 mower tractor?

If the tractor had a battery in it when you were jumping it, there is a chance that the battery is bad. Try unhooking the tractors battery and trying again. Hook your jumper cables to the battery cables themselves without being attached to the battery. If it runs then just replace the battery. A battery with a short in it will keep the mower from charging and could cause it to die. If there was no battery in the tractor when you were jumping it, then the tractor is not charging and will have to be diagnosed as to what the problem is.

They tried to jump your car but the radio fuse blew what happened?

There are many reasons a radio fuse can blow. However, if it happened while trying to jump-start a vehicle, most likely what happened is the cables were hooked up to the battery backwards.

What do you need to check if your 2004 Chevy Astro van will not start or jump start?

First take the battery cables off and clean BOIH ends. Then make sure there is a good ground between the engine and body--VERY IMPORTANT- Then let the jumper cables stay on for about 1/2 hour before trying to start it. If nothing it could be the starter. It needs to be checked out,./

Upon trying to turn over the motor the battery became weak, and I have been trying to jump start the ATC. The atc three wheeler does not seem to be getting spark to the spark plug. 2000 galant will not start new battery even tried to jump start still will not start but have juice enough for interior lights turns over like battery is dead put hotwire from jumper cables to alterna?

sounds like you need a new starter motor I agree with the above contributor. If the battery is new and the engine turns as if the battery is very low, the bushings on the starter are worn and the starter is dragging. Definitely need overhaul or replacement. I don't understand why you would put a hotwire from the jumper cables to the alternator. I don't think such action will help either the battery or the starter. by putting wire from jumper cable to alternator all you are doing is trying to fry some other elctrical part hot wire will not work in this case.and that is not how you run a hotwire anyway
