The first commercial Electronic Fuel Injection unit in an internal combustion engine powered car in the United States was the American Motors Corporation Rambler in 1957. With their new 327ci (5,359cc) and "Electrojector" electronic fuel injection the engine produced 288 horsepower. Just a little before that General Motors Rochester division made a mechanical fuel injection system for their 1957 Chevrolet models with the 283ci (4,637cc) engines. Fuel Injection had been used on Cummings Diesels from the 1920s onwards but those were almost exclusively used in trucks.
