Debbie Lori Kaye was born May 6, 1950 in New York, but grew up in Sault Ste. Marie, Canada, where her father worked as a radio announcer. She had a string of hits between 1965 and 1973, and made TV and movie appearances. She received several Juno nominations, but never won. (The Juno awards are Canada's equivalent to the Grammy.)
