Auto-correct technology can be traced back to the early 1980s when it was developed by researchers at various institutions. One of the key figures in its development was Peter G. Neumark, who created an early version of the system called "Typo Correction." However, it gained widespread recognition with the introduction of smartphones and mobile devices, particularly with Apple's iPhone, which popularized the feature. While no single person can be credited with its invention, it has evolved through contributions from many engineers and developers over the years.

For the iphone 4: I have researched and can't find anything that tells how to edit the auto-correct function, but if you go to settings/general/reset, there is an option to "reset keyboard dictionary"... This effectively wipes out any annoying auto-correct errors. Then again, it also deletes any custom auto-correct settings your phone has already saved.
