since all modern monorails are electric, the proper term for the operator would be, usually Motorman. If it was a steam monorail, he might be called an Engineer out of convenience. all modern monorails are electric. operatives on the so-called Roosevelt Island Tram- really an elevated cable car- (Tram is British use for Trolley car) are styled Motormen or Motorwomen- they have female ops.
