Street lights date back thousands of years. As early as the 4th century Antioch had street lights. Street lights were also used in the 9-10 centuries by the Arab Empire. In 1417 in London Henry Bastien ordered lanterns to be hung on winter nights and by 1792 William Murdoch had installed gas lights in London. In the United States Ben Franklin helped with street lights and by 1816 Baltimore was the first city to have street lights.
