Quartz has a some advantages over Auto. One is, a cheap quartz casio can keep better time than even the most expensive automatic watch. Secondly, quartz has better durability as well as more resistance to shock. Thirdly, service is less costly, with basically a battery change required every several years.
Although with these benefits, you will see most people owning automatic watches. This is because they are mechanical marvels. It's like having a batter powered car versus a combustion engine. Not much "life" to a battery powered anything. It produces no noise, has little parts and is highly reliable. Yes, autos are quirky, need costly service and fail from time to time, but they are really amazing considering the many parts that are fitted into the case and how it just functions based on the motion of one's arm.
So for me, I choose autos. However, if you are more into accuracy over anything else, then quartz is the watch for you.
