The cowl of a vehicle is the area below the windshield, after the engine hood. The area is usually grated with screen to keep debris out of vent area.

First remove the windshield wipers, pry up the small tab near the vent cowl on each wiper. Then remove the screws that hold the vent cowl, pull the vent cowl off and you will see the wiper motor on the driver side
The cowl is the area around the hood and the windshield. Cowls can also be the trim area at the base of the windshield that houses the wipers and air condition vent intakes. The wiper transmissions refer to the motors and actuators under the cowl.

Pop the hood, passenger side cowl, pop out the plastic vent. No tools needed.
It is located in the passenger side cowl where the intake vent is just below the windshield. You will need to remove the screws to get to it.
It's on the passenger side under the hood and underneath an air vent cowl that needs to be removed by releasing three thumb clips. After lifting out the air vent the battery is exposed.
To reseal the screen under the cowl of a 2003 Town Car, first, remove any screws or clips securing the cowl panel and carefully lift it off. Clean the surface and any old sealant from the screen and cowl area. Apply a suitable weather-resistant sealant or gasket material along the edges of the screen, then reattach the cowl panel, ensuring it fits snugly. Finally, secure it with the screws or clips you previously removed.
