There were several customized real and stunt cars made for the film. They were broadly based on a pre-War I Mercedes Benz with (Skiff) boatlike bodywork, special stunt cars were used for the hovercraft- aircar-and amphibious sequences. the real drivable car was capable of l00 MPH on the street and was supercharged. Popular Mechanics did a feature article on the car. the car did not have hard-rubber tires as the article captions stated- as pneumatic nipples were visible through the fenders!
