I have the same unit and the same problem. It's been really cold in my house for weeks now — in a Colorado winter! — and I'm so frustrated! But I just found some videos on YouTube that gave me the idea to follow the gas pipe with my finger, and that should lead to the place to aim the flame. The units in the video are not Rheem RGAC-080A, but the principle should work just the same. I'm going to try it. Why don't they make all gas furnaces the same on the inside, and why not make the pilot location really obvious with a bright red sticker or something so this kind of thing doesn't happen? Grmph.
Open the the upper panel. There will be another panel behind it, sitting at a 45 degree angle right beneath the pilot control unit. You will see the thermocouple wire and pilot gas tube going into a cut out slot at the bottom of the panel. You will have to loosen two screws on the right and left sides of the panel. Slide the panel up and away from you to see inside. You will see the end of the thermocouple and pilot tube about 6 inches back.
i have a 20 year old rheem gas furnace with an electric ignition. when i turn up the thermostate, the pilot starts up but that's it. it doesn't do anything else. What could be the reason for this?

I think you mean from the furnace to the ac unit as the ac unit does not power anything, so here is the low voltage wiring schematic from furnace to ac unit. Get the Input and Output ratings off the furnaces nameplate and divide the Output by the Input ie. 80,000btu divided by 100,000 btu = 80% efficiency
100,000 btu input. The output depends on the efficienct rating of the furnace, ie 95%efficient = 95,000 btu output, 80% = 80,000 btu output.
