If your truck is RWD (Rear Wheel Drive) and you are looking to gain traction for the winter months, load up your bed with some weight. You may find it relatively inexpensive to purchase, or make a bunch of sand bags. Place the added weight over the rear axle (around wheel wells or in rear of bed, not by the cab.) The front of the truck has the weight advantage of the engine sitting on top of the wheels for traction, so the rear is your main concern. I suggest using sand bags, because not only are they an inespensive way to give your rear wheels more traction, but in the event you or someone elses is stuck you can simply cut one open and use the sand inside to assist with getting traction.
Remember, with the added weight in the back, the vehicles handeling charactristics will be changed significantly, give yourself plenty of space and time to get used to the feel of the extra weight.
Snow chains give more traction.
Yes. I have the 725 with 4 ft blower. Even at 235 Lbs I don't put enough weight on front wheels to get traction with the lugged tires.
A SUV is better to commute in snow because of its 4 wheel drive, and it is easier to put chains on. The 4 wheel drive will give you better traction in the snow.
A half ton.
A tractor weight is either put on the wheels as wheel weights or as suitcase weights in the front of the tractor. they add stability and traction.
Your car will have more traction in the snow, making it easier to drive. However, you should only put the tires exactly specifiedby the manufacturer on your car.
For more traction so they dont slip own the hill. You may also see that with smaller snow plows.
Snow shoes on a snow plow help distribute the weight of the plow over a larger area to prevent it from getting stuck in deep snow. This helps to provide better traction and stability for the plow to clear snow effectively.
I know farmers who fill their tractor tires with water to gain weight and traction. -Seems pretty silly to do that to a road tire though.
Studded tires have small metal studs protruding from the rubber, which provides more traction. Snow chains, which wrap around the surface of normal tires, work even better, though they are a hassel to put on.
The S-10 pickup truck is considered a 1/4 ton pickup, so 500 lbs would be maximum payload to carry safely.
