Sounds like your power brake booster diaphragm is busted or there is a leak in the vacuum line going to the brake booster.
Loose wheel; brake problems; bad bearing; something else? Whatever it is it's serious. Check it right away.Answerthe thumping you hear are the potholes you drive over and drp into that's why you don't hear it when you press the brakes.
HI, The most obvious is no brake lights, the brake lights might be coming on and off as you press the brake pedal, do you hear the switch as you press the brake pedal? A brake light switch isn't hard to replace but the first thing to look at and check is the fuse, see if that's blown. A brake light bulb may also be bad but you need to look at the fuse first. Good luck. Steve H.
More info, please. Namely, are you talking about an air brake system? You should hear some air as you apply and release the brake, but you shouldn't hear a continuous air sound as the brake is applied - if so, you've probably got a compromised air line or a bad brake chamber.
How do you SHlrkereIT it is how you press hard and you will eventually hear a PLOP and some times you will hear a fart?
the noise you hear when stepping on the brake is a solenoid activating the lockout on the transmission. it stops you from putting the car in gear unless you step on the brake.
Replace your brake booster. As it sounds like it is leaking. Costs about 150.00 and relativly easy to install.
Generally the brake pedal gets harder to push when braking. You may also hear a vacuum leak when the brakes are applied. And sometimes the will engine idle rough when stopped and holding the brake pedal.
Have you first checked the fuse, that's the first place to look. The second place if the fuse is OK is the brake light switch and that;s on the brake pedal bracket, check the wires and just press the brake pedal and listen to see if you can hear it working, someone to look at the lights is helpful.

If you're referring to an air brake system, you have a leak in a brake chamber... one of your emergency chambers has gone bad (if you hear it only when you depress the brake pedal, then it's a service chamber).
That is the sound of metal on metal. I suggest you immediately take your car to a mechanic and have the brake pads replaced before you cause too much damage to the discs.
