1906 Stanely Steamer Modes Ex Runabout, One of our oldest cars is our fastest car and one of the finest examples existing today. Won the Premier award. Perfect working example - everything completely professionally restored years ago. When new, this car cost $600 and was known as "The locomotive of the highway". The famous "Stanley Steamer" steam car was invented by Francis Edgar Stanley and manufactured by him and his twin brother, Freelan Oscar Stanley, usually referred to as the Stanley twins, F.E. and F.O. The Stanely family bragged that they would give you a new car if you could hold the throttle open for more than 3 minutes. No one could - the power was infinite. $600 seems little now, but in 1906 the working man averaged less than $300 per year. Our steamer has a pilot-gasoline-water-steam system, not a simple car to drive. First the pilot heats the valves -steam and oil - water system to steam - takes about ½ hour from pilot to driving. This car seats two to four people has an 18 inch boiler & burner in front, under the hood a 3x4 ____ engine -10 h.p. - speed infinite. When we purge the cam after driving - the steam fills an entire football field. Totally restored - a beautiful automobile.
