Timing belt changing is not part of routine maintenance for a vehicle, including an Astra GSI Turbo. A timing belt is to be left alone unless a problem arises with the timing in the engine.

if it is a 2.5L it should be 12 degrees before t.d.c.
The timing should be at 6 degrees for a non-turbo, with the distributor vacuum lines disconnected and plugged. It will be at 9 degrees for a turbo, with a test connector for idle setting grounded.
