a couple of things could cause this. depends on what kind of car. the wires could some how be shorting out to the guage itself. the guage could b bad. if the fuel pump is in the tank you will have a floater in there that could be off or the pump itselfcould b bad. sometimes you can oil the needle on the guage itself and it will start working again.
The fuel gauge will no longer give an accurate reading.
There is none. But you can try disconnecting the wiring attached to the fuel sending unit and look at the fuel gauge. If it is giving you an empty reading, the fuel gauge is faulty and should be replaced.
The gauge may be giving you a false reading.
The cause of the faulty fuel gauge is probably the fuel gauge sending unit located inside the fuel tank. Replacing the sending unit would require dropping the fuel tank.
Several things can cause your fuel gauge not to work. The most common cause is a bad ground wire. A malfunctioning float in the fuel tank can also cause the problem.
You need a new fuel pump
Your fuel sending unit is not giving the correct reading to your gauge
fuel gage sender unit is faulty
No.
It is to prevent the fuel from sloshing back and forth. Fuel sloshing can cause the fuel gauge to be erratic. It is to prevent the fuel from sloshing back and forth. Fuel sloshing can cause the fuel gauge to be erratic.
