U little pig
You have to turn the torque converter back and forth while pushing in on it. The last thing to engage is the front pump drive lugs. This has to be done before installing the transmission in the car (or bolting it to the engine block) -- the transmission and torque converter are installed as one single assembly after the torque converter is installed into the transmission.
It is between the front of the transmission and the back of the engine block. It slides over a shaft and into the pump on the front of the transmission. Before you remove the transmission to service the torque converter you must remove the 3 bolts that hold the converter to the FLY-WHEEL.
Yes, the Turbo 400 will bolt up to the 305. Use the original Turbo 400 torque converter and flex plate unless the 305 flex plate has dual bolt pattern to except the 400 converter.
The inside has the weights. If you put it the other way, it might interfere with the torque converter bolting flushly
Yes it will fit. bellhousing will fit but the torque converter will not bolt up to flex plate (flywheel) not to mention the trans cant handle the increased amount of torque with big block
no! the bolt pattern is totally different . only 4 bolts will line up and torque converter patterns are different. you can get adapters and correct torque converters. ford offered the c6 auto for the small block but it had different stall speed settings than a big block.
yes , as long as it is same engine block,be sure to use your old torque converter, and put tranny fluid in converter before installing it onto trans , when putting it on trans push it on turn to the right hear a clunk keep turning to right hear another clunk and there ya go it is seated properly. using your old torque converter ensures the fit to the flywheel
Yes, there are several of them. 6 holding the trans to the engine block, 2 holding the trans mount to the cross member and 3 holding the torque converter to the flywheel.
Generally there is six bolts holding the transmission bellhousing to the engine block. There are several more holding the torque converter to the flex plate and the rear transmission mount to the crossmember.
YES As long as the flexplate is the same size or has additional mounting holes. To add to this answer in depth. i changed from a 350 to a 454. the 454 had a th400 transmission and the 350 had a th350 transmission. (This was a 4x4 so we had to use the th350 transmission because it had a married transfer case)the th400 flywheel did NOT match the th350 torque converter. We installed the th400 converter and it fit perfect in the th350 transmission. I would make sure torque converter bolts to flywheel and as well fits into trasmission before attempting to install in vehicle. It is a huge pain to make the swap half way through the install.
It is in the crank case at the bottom of the block. The pulley that drives all the engine accessors is mounted on one end of it and the flywheel or torque converter, depending on automatic or manual, is mounted to the other end.
