The first "modern" car was a 1916 Cadillac type 53. It featured a manual transmission, handbrake in the center of the car. It had the petals from left to right: clutch, brake, and accelerator. It featured left hand drive, and electric start. While it didn't have the air conditioning, CD player, radio or other current luxuries; it set the standard for control layout that all cars that followed shared.
