∙ 15y agoBecause liquids like benzene, kerosene and gasoline posess a HUGE amount of energy per liter, they are easy to use, and they are not too expensive. Remember that in the United States, gasoline sold for less than the cost of springwater for many decades!
If you mean gasoline, it was not being sold in 1870. The car with a gasoline engine had not been invented yet.
At the pump station services Gasoline is sold by the gallon.
Gasoline was first used as refined petroleum product around 1870. It would be not sold until after then. Actually gasoline was considered to be a waste product when oil was refined for kerosene which was used in heating and lighting.
I heard from my grandmother that, when Twix was first sold in 1967, the cost was 15 cents!
It depends on where you live. In America, about 95% of all Mercedes E320s that were sold were powered by a 3.2 liter, gasoline powered 6 cylinder engines; the other 5% were diesel powered. In Europe, many E320s use the same gas engine, but about half of the them are powered by the 3.0 liter turbodiesel 6 that you're talking about.
There are currently no steam powered cars being sold to the general public. You would have to purchase a very old steam car that would cost you plenty. I saw a 1910 Stanley Steamer sell for $110,000 last year.

Unleaded gasoline, and gasoline in general, does not have a specific freezing point. It is largely dependent on the location where the gasoline is sold, as methods of producing gasoline vary.
