Either API CI-4 or API CJ-4 diesel engine oil. 15W-40 tends to be a bit of a default for all-around use in diesel engines. Do not use SM/SL/SJ classed oils, as these are intended for gasoline engines only. Diesel engines run at substantially higher temperatures than gasoline engines do, and you need engine oil formulated for these high temperatures.

∙ 9y agoThe owner's manual states: 15w-40 is the preferred oil for normal or towing when ambient temperature is above 30 degrees F. 10w-30 is recommenced when temperatures are below 30 degrees F.
