STAND ON the brakes and turn off the engine. Steer safely out of traffic, safely park, and check your gas pedal for floor mat interference.

It would be better to slip the transmission into neutral, gently brake and pull off to the break down lane when it is safe to do so, then when you have come to a stop shut off the engine.
