The Evaporative Emission Control System(EVAP) is used to prevent gasoline vapors from escaping into the atmosphere from the fuel tank and fuel system.
The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. First, remove th fuel tank from the truck being careful to disconnect the big fill hose, fuel hose, return hose, and vapor hose as well as the electrical connector. Then, remove the locking ring holding the pump in the tank. Pull the pump up out of the tank noting orientation. Reverse procedure to install new pump being careful not to bend the fuel level sender (for gage) or the pickup screen.
Large fuel vapor leak. Check for a loose gas cap or a cracked fuel vapor hose from the tank to the engine.
You'll either need to get that from a dealer or from a wrecking yard.
try national parts depot or lmc truck.
The fuel pump for the Cadillac Eldorado with 500 ci engine is located on the left side of the engine block. There are two bolts that hold it in place. There is the fuel line from tank ( fuel pump inlet) line , vapor return hose and fuel pump to carburetor line( fuel pump outlet.) 1974 fuel pumps also have a fuel filter in the pump.
In many cases the fuel cap is at fault, or a cracked vapor/vacuum hose.
There are usually no more than 3 hoses coming from the tank: # The fill hose connects the fill neck to the tank # The vapor recovery line. This comes off the highest point of the tank and takes fumes to the charcoal cannister. # The fuel line. This, on a car that doesn't have an in-tank fuel pump, is not under pressure but will continue to siphon fuel from the tank if it leaks. If you are only smelling fumes and not seeing leakage, it is reasonable to guess that it is your vapor return line.
Then you have a large vapor leak from the fuel system, possibly a cracked hose.
From top of fuel tank connect hose to top carburetor connection> Larger pipe. from bottom of carb [smaller outlet pipe connect hose to primer pump in. From out of primer pump connect to return hose to lower tank connection.
Any large vapor leak form the fuel system can turn the "gas cap" light on. You need to inspect for a cracked, broke, missing vapor hose from the tank to the engine.
If you are looking at the fuel pump from the top with the two parallel lines pointing away from you and the 3rd line facing left, the right of the two parallel is the inlet the left one of the two parallel is the return. The 3rd hose facing left is the outlet hose. return | | inlet outlet _______
there is no valve, there is a return fuel injector hose coming off the fuel rail; returning to the tank. It is reghulated by a fuel injector pressure regulator. Most of them are controlled by a vacuum hose, some newer ones maybe electronically controlled, depends on vehicle. The 1996 Kia Sportage is vacuum controlled and mounted directly to the front end of the fuel rail. Looks like a top hat about size of a quarter in diameter.
