Oil change frequency on almost any vehicle is every 3000 miles under severe driving conditions. Which is loosely defined as running the engine hard, which could be regularly operating in a dusty environment or for extended periods at high temperatures or at high RPMs. The oil advertisements always state 3000 miles, which is a safe bet but probably more often than you need. I would never go more than 4-6k as not having enough oil, having too much, or having ineffective oil could lead to things plugging up (sludge) or at worst cause the engine to seize (where the pistons weld themselves to the cyllinder walls). And routine oil changes are far cheaper than fixing any of those problems.
Oil filter change intervals are generally around every other oil change. Although it's probably a good bet to change it every time.
Your actual oil change interval depends on the dirt saturation level of your oil. The oil not only lubricates your engine but also cleans out fine particles and keeps them away from the moving parts. Oil needs changed because it gets dirty, or can no longer absorb any more dirt to work effectively as a cleaner(detergent). And since not many people can test that its best just to change things regularly.
