The fastest car in the 60s, unfortunately was not the corvette, GTO, or any Chrysler car, it was infact the undisputable Ford Cobra, (1967) 427CI, 560 HP., the car weighed less than 2000lbs. This rocket accelarated from 0 to 100 in 5.2 seconds with a top speed of 220mph. No foreign car on the planet could top this. GM tried to build around 11 or 12 corvettes (ZR88) to compete with the Cobra but they were no match, even though they were sold stripped, No radio,Power Steering, AC, heater etc. The only other auto on the planet to blow the doors off of the Cobra was its cousin the Cobra Super Snake but it was not mass produced, only a few were made. One of these recently sold at Barret Jackson Aution for 3.3 million. So there is your answer.
It was between the camaro and the mustang, I think it was the camaro. Gary Gabolich drove his jet powered car the "Blue Flame" 622.4 miles per hour at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah in the 1960s.
