"SOHC" Means Single Over head Cam and DOHC means Dual (2) Over Head Cam. Example: on lately Ford Mustangs , It comes with 4.6L SOHC and DOHC Engines, which basically it will tell you whether there is/are 1 or 2 camshafts over each cylinder head.

SOHC--Single OverHead Cam DOHC -- Dual OverHead Cam
Yes, they are the same exact blocks and transmissions for SOHC and DOHC. The only difference is the heads and flywheel. As far as I know, you just have to change the flywheel from the SOHC engine and put it on the DOHC motor. Just make sure to put on a new gasket. One more thing is being your putting a dohc engine into a sohc neon, you'll have to change the pcm to a dohc computer or it will run lean and possibly blow the engine. Hope this helps.
Not necessarily better just a different technology. Search Google with the term,"DOHC versus SOHC".Not necessarily better just a different technology. Search Google with the term,"DOHC versus SOHC".
The only difference is the dohc engine has 2 camshafts, an intake and an exhaust camshaft. A standard 2.0 has only 1 camshaft. Many dohc engines also have 4 valves per cylinder whereas a 2.0 sohc generally has 2 valves per cylinder.
The VIN codes correspond to the engine in the vehicle. 7 is the code for the DOHC 1.9, while 8 is the code for the SOHC...
look on top of the valve caver and it will have SOHC/or/DOHC. that will tell u if its either check it out.
