The primary difference is the way fuel is delivered to the engine. In one system a carburetter is used. The carburetter simply provides a supply of fuel that is metered to the intake manifold via jets, the air flowing through the carburetter pulls along gasoline which is atomised in the airstream on the way to the valves and then the combustion chamber to be burnt and thereby provide the power to run the vehicle. Later versions used the engine computer to attempt to more accurately deliver the fuel.

The other system for fuel delivery is the fuel injected system. In the more modern fuel injection systems the engine computer using various sensors is able to deliver a far more exacting amount of fuel to the engine and thereby increase efficiency and at the same time reduce emissions. It is a much superior system.
