What is the best way to clear a clogged condensate drain in a central air conditioner?

One of the best ways to clear a clogged condensate drain in a central air conditioner is to use a wet/dry vacuum. Attach the vacuum to the drain line and create a seal, then turn on the vacuum to suck out any debris causing the clog. Another method is to use a wire brush or a long, flexible brush to physically remove the clog by pushing it through the drain line. In some cases, using a mixture of hot water and vinegar can help dissolve the clog and clear the drain.

How do solve problem of furnace condensation line from freezing up outside our building andthis causes our furnace to stop?

It is generally (pretty much always) a no no to run a furnace condensate line to the outdoors, there is no avoiding this freezing up and stopping your furnace short of wrapping it with electric heat tape, which would be a bandaid at best and no more cheaper than correcting it. If the furnace is running condensate outside, I have to assume there is no drain near by. The best solution is to install a condensate pump, which the furnace and AC can drain into, and it then pumps to a different location indoors, like a laundry stack, or if you must, tap into a drain pipe with the proper fittings. If this is above your skill level, it would not be a bank buster to call a good contractor and have done. The pumps are about $60 in my area, and you can figure 1/2 hr to 3/4 hour to install by a contractor.

How to Clear a Clogged Drain?

Clogged drains are a pesky plumbing problem that everyone will probably have to deal with at some point. Here is a short step by step process you can use to clear almost any drain. The first step is to remove the cover of the drain. Once the cover is removed, try to clear away any hair or gunk you can reach directly inside the drain. Often times, the buildup is only near the surface of the sink or tub and doing this may quickly solve the problem. If that doesn’t solve the problem, next try the hanger method. To perform the hanger method, simply retrieve a metal hanger. Straighten out the wire and then bend it again at the end so it makes a tiny hook. Now put the wire hook into the drain and try to get under any lodged hair or gunk and pull it out. Make sure not to push any hair or gunk down deeper into the drain. If this doesn’t clear the clog, your next best shot is to simply use hot water. Use hot water from another fixture. Make sure the water is very hot, but not boiling. Now pour it down the drain. Make sure to pour it directly into the drain as that will do a better job of clearing the clog. Now wait about fifteen minutes. At that point come back and try to use a plunger to suck the clog out of the drain. The hot water will make this much easier. If that still doesn’t work, you should try one more clog clearing technique. Get some vinegar and some baking soda. Bring them to the drain. Now quickly mix a third cup of both the vinegar and the baking soda together. Quickly pour the mixture down the drain as fast as possible. This mixture will create a chemical reaction that can dissolve the clog. However, the chemical reaction is relatively short so pour it quickly after mixing. With these simple steps you should be able to clear clogs in most drains without having to use expensive chemicals that could damage your pipes or hiring an even more expensive plumber.

How do you remove a foul smell from a refrigerator?

The best way I have found to open a clogged drain tube on a refrigerator is to check both ends of the tube for any visible clogs. If the tube is clogged at the top,an easy rinse is the best way to fix the problem. Fill a syringe with warm water and squeeze up and back until the clog is removed. If that doesn't work, get a fairly stiff length of solid wire and rotor-rooter the clog out. Now, if the tube is clear then you should check the drain that comes out of the freezer area, where you took the long drain tube out. Clean that out with first the wire then the ear syringe. If it is still clogged, then you have to take the evaporator cover off and see if the drain trough is clogged or if the evaporator is full of ice. If this is the case, then you have to clear the ice with a hair dryer until it is free of ice. If none of these suggestions work, then you have defrost problems, which can include some but not usually all of the following: # bad defrost timer # defrost heater # defrost overload. But on the bright side, approx. 90%of the time, you will find the main long defrost tube clogged, so your problem should be easy to fix.
