Typically most poulan string trimmers are 2 cycle products. Most consumer products are mixed at 40 to 1 mixture, 3.2 oz of 2 cycle oil to 1 gallon of gas. higher end commercial product is a 50 to 1 mixture, 2.6 oz of 2 cycle oil to 1 gallon of gas.
Fuel mixture is 16:1
Makita makes both string and hedge trimmers. The hedge trimmer comes in 22 or 25 inch. The string trimmer is a four stroke, fuel efficient trimmer with a commercial duty engine.
open the fuel tank filler cap and dump the fuel/oil mixture out.
In California our fuel should be mixed at 50:1

I purchased my Toro weedeater in 2007. It uses a 50:1 gas/oil ratio.

a few things,carb. needs adjustment,blocked fuel line or small filter in tank clogged, or air intake filter clogged..not too much else. Sometimes there is a small filter attached to fuel line in tank.

If it starts and dies after a very short while, look for a fouled spark plug (flooding), clogged fuel filter (fuel starvation), clogged air filter (flooding), or fuel settings on the carburetor (flooding or fuel starvation).
40 to one is recommended, but I've been told that is too rich, and 50 to one is better.
