VW won't let anyone else run on their test track which is the only test track with a straight away long enough(koenigsegg has asked). Koenigsegg does have a verified top speed..yet(computer est. of 273mph). The SSC aero hit 257 on a road half as long as the VW track, and its new model should run in the 273mph range. The current record hold is the Hennessey Venom GT at 267mph( again on a short runway.) Still the fastest ever driven on a public road was the Mercedes w125 at 268.9mph(432.7km/h) on the Germany auto bahn in 1931.
