an automatic transmission for Chevy cars or trucks. it's a four speed with overdrive, so technically a five speed transmission. It's only a five speed if you count reverse. The 700r4 is a THREE-SPEED with overdrive. four forward gears. (aka 4L60) NOT the same as a 4L60E. The 4L60 is a Vacuum modulated gearbox. The 4l60E is ELECTRONICALLY shifted...
No, but depending on mileage that's probably not the only problem
Yes, if it came out of a 1993, 1994, 1995 or 1998 or 1999. The 1996 and 1997 4l60e trannys are specific for those 2 years only.
There is no transmission, so no transmission oil is required. Only two stroke oil is required, either pre mix or supplied to the engine by the oil injection pump located at the front of the engine.
ATF+3 or ATF+4 should only be used to prevent transmission/torque converter shudder.
If the differential is drained, then 6.9 quarts of Dexron IID are required. If not, then only 5.5 quarts are needed to fill the transmission.
NO. The 96 and 97 transmissions are the only 2 that will bolt up right and they ONLY fit the 96 and 97 models. The starter and torque converter cover plus the transmission bell housing braces are different then all the other year transmissions. You MUST put a 96 or 97 year back in it.
I owned a 1995 neon sc with manual transmission. You don't add transmission fluid like you would a automatic. In fact, the type of fluid my neon required, could only be obtained through the dealer.
no & yes, yes it will bolt up to your engine, but to make it function, you will have to add a transmission computer to your ride. GM sells these for the conversion. Unfortunately, like everything else from GM it is expensive. The 4L60E is an electronoic computer controled transmission where as a 700R4, also known as a 4L60 ,uses the computer only for converter clutch lock up in the 92 model cars. I asume your car is a 92.
Yes. The only way I've found so far is to use supra parts. I haven't found any kits
First of all. That truck came factory with 1 computer that was design to operate and to control The engine and transmission under ALL conditions. So the government design that computer / PCM / power train control module to control 1 type of transmission only. That would be the 4L60E. The transmission wiring harness that comes from the PCM will not even plug up to any other type. with out the correct transmission the computer will not be able to communicate with the transmission and the engine will be receiving false information and nothing will work right. Check engine light will always be on too. Remember 1 computer that controls the engine and transmission and it all MUST WORK TOGETHER.
NO car is ever made with only a manual transmission....
