miss fire in a car engine is when the fuel in combustion chamber of a cylinder is ignited at a wrong time of the stroke between opening and closing of the intake outlet valves or there are no ignition of fuel on one or more cylinders.

Fault finding would be on 1. spark plugs (petrol engine) 2. wiring from coil 3. timing 4. injectors.
