ISO (Insurance Services Office) handles the inspection and rating of fire departments but calling the city hall or the fire department is the easiest way to get the information. Note that your rating may be the combination of two numbers like 6/9. This means that if you are within 5 miles of a fire department (driving distance) AND within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant then you are a class 6 but if you don't meet BOTH of these qualifications then you are a protection class 9.
