it is an indication of play or unwanted space between the valve lifters and the push rods, this is usually taken up by the lifters, these automatically take up the slack with good oil and pressure.
Make sure you have fresh oil as often as possible, then since it seems your car is starting to get older I would recommend using an oil stabilizer or engine treatment, this should take care of the problem at least until it wears down some more, or the oil thins out again.
If this doesn't resolve the problem you may need to check your oil pressure, the oil pump may not be producing enough pressure as it should and may need to be replaced.
