A blind spot is an area that you cannot see, either in front, or by use of mirrors.

The most frequent place for a blind spot is the offside quarter.

You peripheral vision can see from ahead to both sides. Your rear view mirror can see behind, but only as far as the rear window will allow.

There are spots between your immediate side and where the rear view mirror cuts out. This is your blind spot.

Wing, or door mirrors can cover this area when properly adjusted.

On a freeway, some vehicles overtaking slowly, can travel in this blind spot. When you move to change lane; that's when you suddenly become aware, somone was lurking there.

Large semi- trucks cannot see directly behind them or close in, under their doors. That's why some have the bumper sticker " if you can't see my mirrors, then I can't see you". Beware that you may be invisible to them and could get run over if they want to change lane.
