Answer:

A Block Tester is a device that costs around 30.00 dollars. This tool contains a blue liquid chemical that reacts to hydrocarbons when the tester is place in the rad reservoir or radiator neck. The procedure is to pump the device with the car running for up to 45 minutes and if the chemical turns to a greenish color then the head gasket or block is cracked. The only way for the device to change colors is for hydrocarbons entering the cooling system from a leaking head gasket evacuating fumes into coolant running through the head. You will also be able to see bubbling in the device or reservoir from air entering the engine. A crocked block would allow air to enter the engine, this can all be tested assuming the cooling system is free from all air(bleed system) and all seals(thermostat, water pump, radiator, intake manifold) and hoses are in proper condition.
