It may be a bit too late, however, get a measuring tape and take pictures of the damages of the other vehicle's door in comparison with the height of your door. See if it matches. Word of advice; always carry this tape with you along with a camera and if you have an accident take pictures of the damages from the ground up.
Added: It sounds as if you are being pressured to settle with cash from your own pocket. Give the other party the name of your insuror and tell them to report this incident to them and then let them battle it out.
