4 gauge wire.
Disconnect and remove existing cables Replace with new cable using the routing used by original cables + from battery to starter solenoid - From battery to good engine ground
I don't know what model or engine you have but if you follow the positive battery cable from the battery, it will lead you right to the starter.
Ground? Any good bare metal point on engine or frame
You can if it's not newer then a 1998 model. If it's newer then a 98 then you will need a engine scanner to do that.
on the positive battery cable
There is only one starter per truck. If you follow the positive battery cable from the battery it will lead to the starter.

No, but I'll tell you how to do it... Put the two batteries in the truck. Call them "1" and "2." Hook the positive cable from the truck to the positive of battery 1, the negative cable from the truck to the negative of battery 2, and the series-wiring cable (it's about a foot long, and it's got a battery clamp at both ends) between the negative on battery 1 and the positive on battery 2.
on the positive battery cable
# Disconnect negative battery cable # Raise truck and support it # Disconnect the large cable from the terminal on the starter # Remove 4 bolts or nuts securing the starter and remove the starter from engine
Could be that the ground cable needs to be a larger gauge. The present ground cable may be too small causing too much resistance resulting it to heat up. Be sure all the ground connections (battery to engine block, engine block to chassis, chassis to body) are clean and tight.
