Its an air bag. Yes, it has air in it. When a car crash happens, the bag fills up with air very quickly.
The air bag system is not operating correctly. If the car is involved in an accident, the bag may not deploy, causing greater possibility of injury.
It is a restraint system designed to protect occupants in case of an accident. It deploys in an accident and then deploys in a split second.
It stops you from slamming your head when you have a car crash. The bag fills up with air very quickly after sensors in the hood detect that there has been a crash

I have personally been in a car accident and been badly injured by the air bag. Air bags can suffocate children. They can also badly damage their face and area around the face.
If you are refering to an air bag in an automobile, then those bags are filled, very quickly, from a pyrotechnic device called a gas generator mounted at the base of the bag. Small sensors mounted in the car sense when you hit something hard and they ignite the pyrotechnic charge, which burns rapidly, releasing a lot of gas into a bag on the steering wheel, dashboard on headliner of a car. The bag fills and then deflates very very fast. FAST is the key thing here.
You mean a safety airbag in a car? A chemical reaction fills the bag with nitrogen.
I have a 2004 BMW. I had an accident and the air bag opened. Where is the reset button in the car and how do I reset it?
According to the owner's manual, the passenger seat includes a detection system that takes into account how much weight is on the seat and if the seat belt is clicked. If the car determines there is no passenger in the seat, the air bag will not deploy during an accident (but there's no indicator light for that). If the car determines that there is a child in the seat the "airbag "off" indicator light should be illuminated and the air bag should not deploy during an accident. If the car determines the passenger is an adult, the air bag will deploy during an accident. I am trying to find out what are the specific conditions the car uses to distinguish between a child and an adult. No details on that in the manual. Hope that helps.
