The Fuse for Licence Plate Lights on a Jaguar XJ8 [1999] is Located in the Fuse Box in the boot/Trunk on the right hand side it is Fuse No.-19 and is a 5AMP one.
on my 1999 stype the fuse is located in the passenger fuse box fuse no 32 yellow20 amp hope this helps

On the XJ6 there is a fuse box on either wing under the bonnet and 2 more under the cack seats
