if your doors are locked and someone broke in the starter will be shut off. if you have this problem usually you lock and unlock then unlock 4 times with the key in drivers door and that will reset it or some cars turn ignition on and off 3 times and that will reset it also.

We are having the same problem with my daughters 1999 sunfire, it turns over runs 2 seconds , it appears to be anti theft device ,if you wait ten minutes and try it again it will start,but not sure on how to disable the device , no help as yet,but after 10 minutes it re-sets itself and will start, if that is your problem .

rather than disconnecting it try having a new key cut, if the resistor in the key wears out it can cause these problems. You can check with a dealership or locksmith for prices, I know my 1995 LeSabre ran me $35.00 and was much less labor intensive than bypassing the security system. anti theft system is causing problems, the hood pin seems to be the culprit.It will malfunction and set off the anti theft system not allowing the vehicle to start, then when you open and close the hood it sets properly and allows you to reset.Might be best to remove alarm fuse for now, that way you wont be stranded, otherwise the system will need to be repaiired
